There are over 137,400 people living in the region, representing 9.6 per cent of Manitoba’s population. The number of people in the region increases significantly over the summer as cottage owners and vacationers enjoy the multitude of lakes and beaches within our boundaries. We are a culturally diverse region, both among our staff and the people we serve. We are designated as an official French Language regional health authority, and Indigenous populations comprise 27 per cent of the region’s residents inclusive of 17 First Nation communities.

- An expansion of Selkirk Regional Health Centre, with 30 additional acute care patient beds and expanded treatment capacity within the emergency department;
- 15 new transitional care beds at Interlake-Eastern Health Services 100 Easton Drive;
- An expansion of Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, with 12 additional acute care inpatient beds and eight new ED treatment spaces;
- An upcoming renovation of E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room with enhanced privacy for patients, a dedicated family space, a dedicated patient waiting area, and better connectivity to nursing care teams.
“Being able to care for Indigenous folks as an Indigenous nurse gives me kind of a unique perspective. I understand kind of the way they grew up, or ways of knowing the way family works. I also think it’s important to understand Indigenous history… Indigenous ways of knowing and knowledge, spirituality, everything like that. I think it’s important to have that perspective and it’s comforting for the patients to know that somebody understands them.”
