Compensation and Incentives
Physicians in Manitoba are among the best compensated in Canada. Along with competitive salaries, they have access to comprehensive benefits, incentive programs, and bonuses—especially for those working in rural or underserved communities. Physicians in Manitoba are compensated through three main models:
- Fee-for-Service (FFS): Physicians work as independent practitioners and bill Manitoba Health for each patient seen. (no daily cap)
- Independent Contract (IC): Physicians receive a negotiated contract amount from a health authority for a set scope of work.
- Salary: Physicians are employed by a health authority and provide services under an employment contract.

- Family Plus Incentive: $15–$445 per patient, per year.
- After-hours Premiums: 20% more for visits after 5 p.m., weekends, and holidays.
- Administrative Pay: $500 per week for practices with a patient list of 1,500.
- Rural Incentives: Additional percentage increases for physicians outside Winnipeg, with enhanced bonuses for northern Manitoba.
