Role in Manitoba’s Health System

Paramedics provide emergent and non-emergent medical care to patients in out-of-hospital, inter-hospital, and community settings. They also play a key role in Shared Health’s inter-professional Emergency Response Services team and are vital to the safe transport (by air and by land) of patients to (and between) facilities.

There are five different paramedic practice levels in Manitoba: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), Intermediate Care Paramedic (PCP-IC), Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), and Critical Care Paramedic (CCP).

Career opportunities exist across Manitoba in rural, northern and urban settings. Visit the current opportunities page to view job postings or fill out this form to connect with a recruiter.

Continuing Education and Growth Opportunities

There are many new and upcoming opportunities for paramedics in Manitoba to expand their professional skills and explore new opportunities.

Clinical Service Leader

Clinical service leaders are responsible for providing advanced levels of care to patients in both pre-hospital and inter-facility transport roles. This position plays a key role as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality health care services.

The clinical service leader is responsible for providing accessible, responsive, and integrated patient care at all times. The role collaborates with health care providers, allied emergency service agencies, and other community agencies. Clinical service leaders provide front line clinical leadership, mentorship, education, evaluation, and involvement in ERS initiatives, and are responsible to monitor ERS system capacity, perform day to day administration, and lead specialized incident response.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Five years of experience at the primary care paramedic (PCP) or intermediate care paramedic (PCP-IC) level
  • Advanced care paramedic (ACP) certification is preferred, but eligible applicants without this certification will be supported to achieve their ACP diploma.

If you’re interested in becoming a clinical service leader, keep an eye on this page for updates on future opportunities.

Community Paramedicine Expansion

Shared Health is expanding the Community Paramedicine program by building on existing community paramedicine programs that currently exist in Winnipeg and introducing new units to meet the needs of rural Manitoba communities.

Community paramedics are part of an innovative care model that improves access to additional support services for patient populations such as seniors and patients with chronic health and social issues and results in fewer unnecessary transports to emergency departments.

As a community paramedic, you will identify care concerns and link patients with the right care through the development of treatment plans, involving a combination of services, treatment, support, and referrals to other parts of the health system.

If you’re interested in becoming a community paramedic, keep an eye on this page for updates on future opportunities.
