Registered Nurses work alone and/or alongside others in a variety of practice roles. They practice as administrators, caregivers, counselors, patient care advocates, researchers, teachers, policy makers and more. RNs can be found working with people of all ages who have a variety of physiological, emotional and mental health needs. RNs practice with a patient/client-centered approach meaning that they work together with the patient/client to achieve a realistic plan of care.
RN’s perform some of the following duties:
- Assess patients to identify appropriate nursing interventions
- Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary health team to plan, implement, co-ordinate and evaluate patient are in consultation with patients and their families
- Administer medicals and treatments as prescribed by a physician or according to established policies and protocols
- Monitor, assess, address, document and report symptoms and changes in patients condition
- Assists in surgery and other medical procuedures
- May supervise other members of the health care team
