Sonographers use equipment that sends out high frequency sound waves (also known as ultrasound) to create images of internal structures and organs in the body. These images are used to help the health care team diagnose and treat medical conditions.
Role Requirements
- Sonographers may need to hold different positions while performing scans and must be mindful of muscle strain
- Sonographers may work with patients who experience medical test anxiety
- Sonographers may be required to travel to provide services in other facilities or smaller rural communities
- Sonographers work 8-hour shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Some work overnight call shifts
