Incentives

Manitoba health-care workers are benefiting from new, long-term collective agreements, with competitive compensation, special incentives and many monetary and non-monetary benefits.

Specific benefits and incentives vary by profession, work location and shift worked, but may include:

Nursing

  • Shift premiums for working evening/night/weekend
  • $3.00/hour shift premium for all paid hours worked in an Intensive Care Unit.
  • $4.00/hour Shift Premium for all paid hours worked in an Emergency Department where ICU exists in the same facility.
  • $2.00/hour shift premium for all paid hours worked in an Emergency Department (without ICU) or Urgent Care.
  • $2.00/hour for all hours where nurse is assigned to triage duties in an Emergency Department/Urgent Care.
  • Personal Wellness Leave of 2 days to support a nurse’s physical and mental wellness
  • Up to 7 weeks of vacation based on years of service
  • Overtime at double pay
  • Overtime worked on statutory holidays at 2.5x pay
  • Full Time incentive – full time nurses may be eligible for up to $10,000, active up to March 31, 2025
  • Full Time Hours Salary Enhancement – nurses in eligible classifications may be eligible to earn a pensionable premium of an additional $5.95/hour when working full-time hours within a prescribed six-month reporting period. (Effective April 1, 2025 – March 31st 2027.)
  • Recruitment incentive – A nurse returning to employment from retirement or resignation may be eligible for up to $10,000, active up to April 1, 2025
  • Generous health spending accounts
  • Provincial Travel Nurse Team incentives
  • Nurses Recruitment and Retention Fund grants
  • Nurse referral incentive of $1,000 per referral, active up to March 31, 2025

The above nursing incentives have been negotiated as part of the latest collective agreement with Manitoba Nurses Union and are in effect until March 31, 2028 unless otherwise stated.

Allied Health

  • Overtime at double pay
  • Worked holidays at 2.5x pay
  • Full time incentive – full time allied health workers in the public health system may be eligible for a $5,000 payment
  • Return of Service Recruitment and retention incentive – returning employees or existing employees who are eligible for retirement and who continue working in the public system for a two year period may be eligible for up to $10,000.
  • Weekend Super Premiums – offering an additional $8 per hour for eligible workers and shifts
  • Evening/night/weekend premiums for eligible allied health staff
  • Generous health spending accounts
  • Reimbursement for professional licensing fees in 2023 and 2024

Community and Facility Support

  • Overtime at double pay
  • Worked holidays at 2.5x pay
  • Weekend Super Premiums – offering an additional $8 per hour for eligible workers and shifts

Physician Assistants and Clinical Assistants
