A Career as a Speech-Language Pathologist Can Take You Anywhere
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are skilled professionals with specialized knowledge and clinical training in communication and swallowing disorders. This includes assessing and treating problems with how patients speak and understand language, read and write, how our voices sound, and how we chew and swallow food and/or liquid.
Role Requirements
- Speech-language pathologists work in different environments, including hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centres, and long-term care facilities.
- Speech-language pathologists work collaboratively with other disciplines to support patient care goals.
- Speech-language pathologists work eight-hour shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.

A Master’s degree is required to practice speech-language pathology in Canada. There is currently no training program in Manitoba, but there are twelve universities in Canada that offer a speech-language pathology program:
